Sawadee Ka,
I just want to know whether Thai women (age 18-25) still value virginity. How is the Thai society view of young couples having pre-marital sex?
P.S. I am talking about typical Thai women--Not hookers! :)
Thank you so much.
I can read Thai ka.Do Thai women have sex before marriage? 10 points for the best advice. Thank you?
If I were Thai I would be very offended.
Even if you were a fellow Thai, what do you think? that they are barbarians?
of course they have morals, and almost every modern society looks down on lose of virginity before marriage. It happens all the time, cause...it's fun...heh...
but yes they do value it(some more then others, just like everywhere else in the world)...not every Thai girl is a hooker.
I know you don't intend to offend anyone but still...Do Thai women have sex before marriage? 10 points for the best advice. Thank you?
Welllllll! The girls working in bars were not born ';bar girls!'; Even ';hookers'; were not born preordained as hookers! Often they work in their new professions to earn money to support children or help their parents out!
Most of the bar girls work bars to support children that the fathers don't support! Some of these ladies were not married and they had to find a job to send money home, usually it is parents or other family members that are taking care of the kids.
So, I guess just like other countries, some ladies do get in a family way without being married first! When they are young many of them are not wise in the ways of birth control and end up with unplanned pregnancies. Many ladies work in bars and even as hookers to make the lives of their children a little better by providing clothes, food and school!
i'm married to a thai woman, she was 26 and still a virgin. it all depends really, i've known many ladies that said they were virgins and waiting for marriage, i've also known many that weren't. most bar girls i've met will never tell their parents if they go out with customers. i think they are more interested in not losing face for themselves or their families, but still needing to be able to bring home some decent money to help the family.
my wife comes from a military family, she was watched by her parents and 2 older brothers...even when they lived on base. she went to a disco 1 time and a brother escorted her and her friends. the neighbor girl to us is 21, she never leaves the house except to go to college. she does have a boyfriend now and can go out with him now when he comes to town, he went to her father and asked if he could be allowed to date her. he gave his approval, i'm not sure if she's still a virgin or not...but they did it the right way, according to tradition so i don't think it matters now,
Well I go to Thailand every year with my husband and I have found over the last five years the clothes seem to be getting skimpier and the girls over there are always in fights over boys stc.
Not to offend anyone but I think it just depends on the individual but I think it probably doesnt matter anymore about sex before marriage.
Its becoming a thing of the past in most countries I find
Hope this helps
To answer your question without sweeping generalizations is difficult.
There are big differences between socio-economic groups and between different geographic regions.
To generalize, you鈥檒l find that traditional / conservative Thai values such as Thai women being chaste until marriage are observed in the deep south as well as among upper middle-class families, especially of 2nd or 3rd generation Thais of Chinese descent.
On the other hand, you鈥檒l find that in farming communities, it is very widespread with sex before marriage. But, again to generalize, the problem is not as much a question of deteriorating moral values, but rather that young males are allowed to be very irresponsible, i. e., they can leave the pregnant girl on her own without being condemned or reprimanded by the community. In urban settings, the guys act the same way in the poorer socio-economic groups.
This is not really anything new. When I was at Thammasat (over 10 years ago), the same patterns were found in a research project we did.
But, the globalization and pop-culture influences have impacted the values of the Thai urban youth. It is not something that started happening after 2002 (when you left), but the strength or impact of such influences have accelerated over the past decade. And it is not only western influences, but also various trends from Japan and South Korea. I鈥檓 sure you know some of the many Thai pop bands (such as China Dolls) Grammy invented (copied) from what was popular in Japan.
One aspect of these influences is a more liberal attitude to premarital sex among many young urbanites. While a survey indicates 70% of the respondents have had premarital sex, I am not sure this represents the full picture. Before assuming a survey represents the ultimate truth, one should question who and how many were asked. The respondents probably do not represent all of Thailand鈥檚 population, but only a certain part (e.g., Bangkokians).
But I am pretty sure the trend (an earlier survey indicated 50% while the recent survey indicated 70%) indicated by the surveys is correct . . . . premarital sex is getting more common and thus more accepted in Thai society.
I am from the US and I have visited Thailand many times. I have now 2 daughters that live in the US and I'm sure neither are still virgins which to me as their father does matter but knowing how life in the US is, it is or was their own decision not one of them having to make for the money. In Thailand I have found that most of the young ladies that I have talked with still have very strong family values much more there than the US. But with the economy the way that it is, it is my openion that the ladies will do what they have to to help their families. From my experience there is nothing more important to a Thai lady than her family.
No in some Asian Country it's considered to be illegal.
sawadee ka coon sabbi dee mai farang men and women have sex before marriage, thai are no different.i do not know what % of women(all women not only thai) value their virginity but i think the number would be low
I hope it's more sensible there than it is here.
I know you are looking for a serious answer, so this is what I know from reading the local English language paper the Bangkok Post.
Goverenment officials are very concerned about the increased sexual activity of teenagers. It is skyrocketing in Thailand. On Valentine's Day, the police increased security and observations at all suspected hangout for sexual activity, bars, discos, motels, malls, etc. I was quite surprised wondering to myslef, are they having sex in the mall's bathrooms ???
Also like someone else pointed out, the girls are dressing more risque than ever before. Just go to Paragon, MBK or Central World and watch the way girls act.
Yes, although it is frowned upon if their family found out. Now there are traditional Thai girls that do not have sex before marriage. But now a days most Thai girls are like other girls and do have sex before marriage.
